We want this extraordinary place preserved for future generations, which is why we limit numbers, operate modern vessels, and vary sites to reduce pressure on any one reef. Guests often experience locations rarely seen by others, and if something remarkable appears along the way, we stop, explore, and stay longer if it inspires us. Every tour is enriched by passionate marine interpretation, ensuring those who are curious leave with a deeper understanding of the reef and its importance.

We protect the Great Barrier Reef at ABC Reef Safaris Port Douglas. It’s at the core of our operation and all that we do.

  • We protect the reef by promoting a strict “Take only photos, leave only bubbles” policy.
  • Educate our customers about reef ecology with informative marine talks and teaching reef conservation courses (Project Aware).
  • Use very fuel efficient and economical vessels, operated to minimise emissions.
  • We choose ‘live boat’ snorkelling and scuba diving wherever possible, over physical attachment options like anchoring. If anchoring is unavoidable, then hand guided placement is used for tight spots.
  • Use “green” and recyclable materials where appropriate. In line with our ECO certification.
  • Explore new sites regularly, which helps to avoid sites becoming “over-used”.

We’ve officially rebranded from ABC Snorkel Charters to ABC Reef Safaris. This change reflects what we do today and where we’re heading with focus and passion. At ABC our core values have always been on small-group, personalised reef experiences and that has not changed. What has changed is our capacity to deliver more outstanding Great Barrier Reef activities and experiences, thanks to the addition of a new vessel.
