ABC Reef Safaris is a boutique Great Barrier Reef operator based in Port Douglas. We are a small, dynamic and growing business with a reputation for doing things differently.

We don’t want to become another big tour company, and we don’t operate with a “this is how we’ve always done it” mentality.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve, evolve, and create exceptional experiences for our guests and we are looking for one or two outstanding people to grow with us.

Who are we looking for?

Someone with energy, personality, enthusiasm, and a genuinely strong work ethic.

You will be passionate about people, tourism and delivering exceptional customer service. You should enjoy being busy, taking responsibility, solving problems, and producing ideas.

You will also need to be a great communicator particularly on the phone and by email because you will often be the very first contact our guests have with ABC Reef Safaris.

Our clients come from all over the world, and many are planning a once-in-a-lifetime Great Barrier Reef experience. We do not simply send generic replies. We listen, understand what they are looking for and tailor our advice accordingly.

The first impression matters.

The role

This is a broad and evolving position within a small business, so no two days will necessarily be the same.

You may be involved in:

Managing enquiries and converting them into bookings
Speaking confidently and enthusiastically with guests by phone and email
Understanding and managing multiple booking channels and platforms
Building relationships with travel agents and industry partners
Sales and marketing initiatives
Managing guest feedback and reviews
Preparing passenger, transport, and crew manifests
Helping with daily operational planning and boat requirements
Supporting correct records and administration
Improving systems, procedures, and communication
Using technology and software to their full potential
Finding opportunities to make the business better

We particularly value people who notice things.

Someone with a bit of a “people radar” who can read a situation, understand a client, spot a problem before it becomes one and recognise an opportunity when it appears.

Tourism is a seven-day industry

ABC Reef Safaris operates in a seven-day industry, so the role will include some weekend work and occasional support outside conventional office hours. Rostering and flexibility will be discussed openly with the successful candidate, and we are willing to shape the arrangement around the right person.

This is not a casual short-term position.

We are looking for people who can see themselves becoming an important part of our business and developing their careers with us over the long term.

A commitment of at least 12 months is essential, but ideally, we want someone who is thinking well beyond that.

Marine tourism, Great Barrier Reef, diving, boating, travel industry, or hospitality experience would be a significant advantage but attitude, personality and potential are equally important.

One final requirement…

A sense of humour is non-negotiable.

We work hard, things move quickly, boats do not always behave themselves, weather changes, guests ask interesting questions and tourism can throw something new at you every day.
